Variety is the Spice of Life

Our farm celebrates the full spectrum of pumpkin possibilities. From the classic bright-orange carvers to rare heirloom varieties, our fields are bursting with shapes, sizes, and colors you won’t find in your average store.

Heirloom pumpkins are special because they offer a combination of history, beauty, and flavor that modern commercial varieties often lack. Unlike mass-produced pumpkins bred mainly for uniformity and shipping, heirlooms come in all shapes, colors, and textures. Their deep ridges, unusual hues—like dusky blue, pale pink, and creamy white—and bumpy skins give them a distinctive, rustic charm that makes them stand out in any fall display.

But they’re not just pretty. Many heirloom pumpkins are prized for their rich, sweet pulp and are ideal for cooking and baking—making the best pies, soups, and roasted dishes. Plus, by purchasing an heirloom, you're helping preserve genetic diversity in agriculture and keeping rare varieties from disappearing forever.

Pumpkin Patch

Johnson County Pumpkins

Good Soil, Good Pumpkins

If the ground's healthy, the plants are stronger, the vines fuller, and the fruit better. When the soil is balanced and full of life, plants don’t get stressed or sick as easily.

We stay on top of weeds the old-fashioned way—by pulling and mowing them. Only sprays are anti-fungal, which proper spacing and mowing can sideline. That’s why we stick to what works—good soil, honest work, and a hands-on approach that grows strong plants, clean pumpkins, and a farm we’re proud to stand behind.

And of course, we’ve got Penny—our four-legged farm hand—who earns her keep chasing off rabbits, raccoons, and anything else that thinks our pumpkins look like a snack. She patrols the patch like it’s her own, keeping critters from nibbling the vines or digging up young plants. She may not wear a uniform, but she’s as much a part of our pest control as anything else we do.

In Scenic Johnson County

Johnson County is a quiet gem with a character all its own. The landscape rolls gently across patchwork fields, where rich soils and open skies set the stage for a slower, more grounded pace of life.

Southeast Nebraska is especially beautiful in the autumn, when the fields turn golden and the tree lines along the creeks blaze with reds, oranges, and rust. The rolling hills catch the low sun just right, casting long shadows and lighting up the landscape in a warm, peaceful glow. Cornstalks rustle in the breeze, pumpkins dot the fields, and the air carries that crisp, clean smell that only fall can bring.

Unique Mood Accelerators

Trick-or-Treat should be a year-round proposition, but we really throw down for Halloween. The ever unique look of heirloom pumpkins make porches and displays stand out, whether you're going for charming, spooky, or downright eye-catching.

Our heirloom pumpkins are frightfully fun for Halloween—they come in ghostly whites, eerie blues, and gnarly warty skins that look like they’ve crept straight out of a haunted patch.

Heirloom pumpkins often last longer after harvest because many varieties have thicker rinds and denser pulp, which makes them tougher against rot and weather changes. They were originally bred to store well over time, especially before refrigeration, so durability was just as important as looks or taste. That makes them perfect for Halloween displays—they can sit on your porch through chilly nights, sunny afternoons, and even a light frost without turning soft or saggy.

Happy Halloween!
